Jordan GreenCo-OwnerJordan Green first tasted farming at an early age. Born in upstate New York, he spent his childhood on a 1000-acre private lake preserve and developed a love for animals and the outdoors. Working in his family's gardens and raising egg laying chickens were activities he enjoyed every summer. As a teenager on his parents' Virginia homestead, he managed a herd of dairy goats, raised pastured poultry, helped out with his mother's large gardens, and worked in his father's landscaping business.
He attended Joel Salatin's Polyface Farm as an apprentice from September 2001 through November 2002. From 2002 through 2004, he coached several aspiring farmers on the east coast in the process of starting their own sustainable farms. For five years from 2004 to 2009, he served his country in the United States Marine Corps with multiple deployments around the world.
Upon leaving active military service in 2009, Jordan and his wife Laura started their own 200-acre sustainable farm in Edinburg, Virginia, and have been steadily growing it since then. They raise animals ethically, entirely on pasture and forest, and in harmony with nature. They currently offer pasture-raised poultry, forest-fed pork, and grass-fed and grass-finished beef. They also collaborate with local farms with the same philosophy to provide truly farm-fresh eggs, organically grown vegetables, and other farm foods.
Together with their three children, they work to bring healing to eroding farmland, steward the resources of their farm, and advance the cause of sustainable farming.
Laura GreenCo-Owner
Laura GreenCo-OwnerLaura Green is a native of central Texas and grew up on her parents' small farm were they also had a honey distribution business. She and Jordan met in November 2002 at the wedding of her sister, Sheri, to Daniel Salatin. She and Jordan began a friendship and were engaged on Christmas Day 2004 and married in June 2005. As a military wife, she worked in the restaurant service industry and banking while also managing their home as a vacation rental while Jordan was deployed.
She loves people and as Jordan says, "Laura is our social butterfly". She enjoys engaging in conversations and has a passion for helping people learn more about how to cook healthy, easy meals using J & L meats and other farm foods. Laura believes that excellent customer service is the backbone of any small business, and always strives to make the customer happy. She is the person behind the computer and phone and the one making all the deliveries as of this writing.
As a partner in J & L Green Farm she manages all aspects of marketing and sales in addition to keeping up with three active children, Justin, Allie, and Wyatt.

Because of teamwork, we are able to raise and produce everything we do and have our products available to our farm friends. It takes a lot of time and effort to rotationally graze animals and take care of them daily. Our team works hard and at the end of the day, everyone sleeps well knowing that what happens on the farm is important and worth it!

In Ep. 1, you get a taste of what early March looks like on the farm as we begin to transition from winter operations to spring. Green grass is not here yet but we are getting ready for it! Jordan & Laura Green started J & L Green Farm in 2009 after leaving jobs in the banking sector and the military. Prior to that in 2001-02, Jordan completed a successful apprenticeship at Polyface Farm under Joel Salatin. On their farm they raise grass finished beef, pastured poultry and forest raised hogs. The farm orients directly to retail and serves hundreds of families in the east coast area. With three kids and a handful of team members they seek to regeneratively farm their 200 acres and produce high quality, clean meats.
In Ep. 2, the spring season is beginning to hit its stride with a batch of chickens needing to go to pasture, piglets to load up, pigs to be caught, feed delivered, and that's just before lunch!

Ep. 5 * Discretion advised. This episode has to do with harvesting animals and includes scenes of animal butchering & blood. Harvesting animals for meat is one of the most controversial topics in food & social media today. We debated on even releasing this episode but firmly believe in the science of meat eating, the ethics of human animal rearing and the case for regenerative farming practices including livestock for meat. We hope you find this show educational and inspiring. Transparency in agriculture is incredibly needed today. We are here, being transparent with the world on what we do and why.
