First, a story...

Several summers ago, my family and I drove to the Outer Banks for vacation.

After what felt like 735 hours on the shimmering hot road, we pulled the minivan over for a picnic lunch in a scorching Dollar General parking lot. (This is what happens when you take the "scenic" route.)

Sweaty, bored, and overheated, we pulled out the meals we'd packed for the kids early that morning: cold turkey sandwiches, chilled crackers & cheese, frozen GoGurts. 

Then, I pulled out my high-noon-on-a-95-degree-day lunch: a Thermos of hearty, steaming-hot homemade soup.

Um, what?

Well, yeah...after 18 months of heroic healthy eating to help my body deal with chronic medical issues, I'd worked out a fantastic system. And homemade soups were central to my success—even in the dog days of summer. ;)
