Southern-Style Holiday Brisket

A simple, tasty dry rub for a hearty holiday brisket. For springtime holidays, pair with light sides like asparagus, a citrus-y salad or slaw, and/or airy lemon poppy seed muffins. Delicious made ahead and frozen until the day of your event!
- Servings: 6-8
Ingredients
- (3-4lbs) Beef Brisket
- (2 Tbsp) Pork Lard
- (1.5 cups) Beef Broth
Directions
Ingredients:
1Tbsp each of cinnamon, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked or regular paprika, dried mustard (optional), salt, black pepper, and brown sugar
2 Tbsp high-heat cooking oil (avocado oil, refined coconut oil, lard)
3-4lbs Beef Brisket
1 bay leaf (optional)
1.5 cups beef broth or stock
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 275°F.
- Mix all spices together and rub generously on meat. Let sit for 1 hour if possible.
- Heat oil in heavy bottomed oven-safe pot/dutch oven.
- Brown the meat on all sides (just 1-2 minutes on each side).
- Cook in oven for 1 hour, uncovered.
- Add broth and bay leaf; cover tightly and cook for another 3-4 hours until meat is tender enough to be easily pierced with a fork.
- Allow to cool, then slice against the grain into long slices.
Brisket is delicious when prepared ahead of time; you can even make it ahead and freeze it until the day of your special meal.
