Southern-Style Holiday Brisket
A simple, tasty dry rub for a hearty holiday brisket. For springtime holidays, pair with light sides like asparagus, a citrus-y salad or slaw, and/or airy lemon poppy seed muffins. Delicious made ahead and frozen until the day of your event!
  • Servings: 6-8

Ingredients

Directions

Ingredients:

1Tbsp each of cinnamon, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, smoked or regular paprika, dried mustard (optional), salt, black pepper, and brown sugar

2 Tbsp high-heat cooking oil (avocado oil, refined coconut oil, lard)

3-4lbs Beef Brisket

1 bay leaf (optional)

1.5 cups beef broth or stock

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 275°F.
  2. Mix all spices together and rub generously on meat. Let sit for 1 hour if possible.
  3. Heat oil in heavy bottomed oven-safe pot/dutch oven.
  4. Brown the meat on all sides (just 1-2 minutes on each side).
  5. Cook in oven for 1 hour, uncovered.
  6. Add broth and bay leaf; cover tightly and cook for another 3-4 hours until meat is tender enough to be easily pierced with a fork.
  7. Allow to cool, then slice against the grain into long slices.

Brisket is delicious when prepared ahead of time; you can even make it ahead and freeze it until the day of your special meal.

For springtime holidays, we recommend serving brisket with "light" sides like asparagus, a citrus-y salad or slaw, and/or airy lemon poppy seed muffins.
