Big happenings in the "ag" (agriculture) world this month:

A few weeks ago, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack made an announcement that got a standing ovation from a room full of farmers.

What was it?

This:

The USDA is proposing a rule change for beef, poultry, processed eggs, and pork—

"You can only use the 'Product of USA' label if the critter was born here, raised here, slaughtered here, and processed here."

-Tom Vilsack, 3/6/23

Wait a sec, you might say. This was an announcement?

Yes.

For years, USDA labeling requirements for the "Product of USA" label have allowed meat from other countries to be labeled "Product of USA" as long as it was packaged in the US.

Examples like this also raise questions: What do other grocery store food labels actually mean (and not mean)? Is there a better way to trust the food we feed our families?

We sure think so.
